|The aim of the subject: ? to develop and improve interlingual translation skills and competences at different language levels (grammar, lexis, style, etc.); ? to develop skills to express the message accurately, particularly in the second language translation version; ? to improve the skills to interpret information perceived by listening; ? to develop listening comprehension skills and train memory to advance consecutive interpreting skills.|
Students are able to identify, compare and contrast essential differences between the source and the target language in texts in different fields and on different issues. - Assessment: texts (home reading, translations – portfolio, text register) exam.
Students are able to translate texts from Latvian into English and backwards adequately or equivalently, producing several target language versions, as well as to edit the final translation version. - Assessment: home tasks, test translations, exam (text 1,500 pr. signs LV? RU, 40 min; text 1,500 pr. signs RU ? LV, 40 min;).
Students are able to interpret informative reports in oral speech in a second language and summarize the information perceived by listening, as well as to translate the text consecutively. - Assessment: home tasks, texts (topical issues). Evaluation: test translations, home reading, translatins – tested/not tested; exam – mark according to 10 grade scale.
