Development of speaking, reading, and listening skills. Situational communicative, pseudo-professional and professional communicative situations are used to develop listening skills in the English language. Students study definite issues developing oral and written speech, as well as listening skills. Discussion topics: professional, popular scientific, social economic, scientific technical issues. Practical classes based on various tests, communicative – situational tasks, pair / group work, discussions, denotative graphs (logical schemes of the text), brainstorming, regular listening practice, etc..

|The aim of the course: To acquire effective speaking and listening skills in English/German in accordance with the requirements of the programme “Technical translation” Objectives of the course: 1. To develop speaking skills in English/German based on popular – scientific, scientific – technical and social – economic texts; 2. To extend high frequency, useful vocabulary; 3. To improve fluency and confidence; 4. To improve accuracy (oral and written accuracy, grammatical precision, etc.) 5. To develop effective listening skills (listening for gist, listening for specific information, sentence completion, multiple-choice questions, etc.)|
Students are able to comprehend intermediate and advanced audio texts in special fields. - Assessment: listening and communicative tasks, tests, exam. Are able to evaluate adequately various information content. Evaluation: mark according to 10 grade scale.
Students are able to interpret and comment on the information perceived by listening, identify and comprehend the gist of the text, support their opinion with relevant arguments. - Assessment: listening and communicative tasks, tests, exam. Are able to complete tasks orally, complete the test in writing.
Students are able to discuss audio/video information in groups at practical classes. - Assessment: audio/video texts, discussions, exam. Are able to communicate fluently and express their opinion to the audience.
Students are able to prepare and present a report on a definite issue, present a report using PowerPoint presentation. - During the semester students complete 4 tests on the basis on audio/video materials, deliver a presentation (tested/not tested). Exam: texts in different fields (15 min), listening comprehension tasks.
