This course will introduce different geophysical methods which are applicable solely or in combination, to solve engineering and environmental problems. The mathematical fundamentals will be explained shortly for each method as it is necessary for an understanding of the results. The usual survey practice, the applied processing flow, the achievable accuracy and the geological interpretation of the geophysical results and its presentation will be discussed. Several aspects of the required personnel and technical resources as well as of measures for quality assurances will be considered. Case histories of geophysical investigations in environmental engineering and exercises to establish the knowledge gained will complement this course..

|To acquire knowledge about geophysical methods (mathematical fundamentals, instruments, survey practice, economics, time scheduling) and measurement data processing and interpretation.|
Is able to decide which geophysical methods are suitables for solving specific geotechnical questions and to asses the obtained geophysical results and their geological interpretation. - Examination: homeworks, practical works, final test.
Criteria: ability to understand specific hydrogeological and environmental situations in order to chose the best geophysical survey.
Is able to plan and organize the usual survey practice, the applied processing flow, the achievable accuracy and the geological interpretation of the geophysical results and its presentation. - Examination: homeworks, practical works, final test. Criteria: ability to recognize the parameters measured and the problems to be detected with a certain type of geophysical survey.
Knows the required personnel and technical resources of the methods as well as of measures for quality assurances. - Examination: homeworks, practical works, final test. Criteria: ability to organize and plan a geophysics survey from economical and timing point of views using the knowledge gained within the course.
|Course prerequisites||English knowladge at B1 level at least. Basic knowledge in mathematics, physics, optics, chemistry, electrical engineering and geotechnology.|
