The course "Biotechonomy" discusses usage of local bio-resources and creation of high value added products, applied technologies and examples. Biotechonomy approach is significant not only for national, regional and local sustainable development but also for every citizen. The course considers technologies for extraction, preparation, treatment and processing of local resources - bio-resources that are present in every step of the everyday life. |The aim of the course is to provide knowledge about bioresources usage over their entire life cycle. Furthermore to understand the different aspects of bioresource use, e.g., technological, environmental, economic, legislative and socioeconomical.|
Capability to understand definitions and basic principles of biotechonomy. Ability to identify and understand bioresource exctaction technologies. Understands the causes of climate change, the potential adaptation strategies and the application of climate technologies. - Assessment: practical work and presentation.
Criteria: Knows how to explain taken assumptions.
Ability to understand the system dynamics model for the development of biotechonomy in Latvia. Understands how to identify the technological, environmental, economical and socioeconomical aspects of bioresource use. - Assessment: course work and presentation. Criteria: Capability to accomplish course work requirements for the development of biotechonomy in Latvia.
