Annotation The course introduces students to main stages and organization of product design and development. The insight into development process begins with identifying customer needs, establishing product specification, as well as generation and evaluation of possible concepts. Students gain understanding of the role of industrial design in creation of new products, as well as main principles of rational design from technical and technological point of view. Course also provides insight into types of product prototypes, their manufacturing technologies and practical use. Finally, economic basics and management of designing process are regarded..

The goal of the course is to provide students with understanding of main stages of product design and development process in conditions of free market economy. To provide students with skills required for design and development of innovative and competition capable products. To provide students with understanding of main principles of rational design including the following tasks: competence in unification and standardization of industrial products; competence in designing of products with optimal technical parameters – mass, metal quantity, strength and rigidity; skills to evaluate the possibilities of CAD/CAM software in designing of specific technical objects.
