The students translate authentic texts in English and native languages, focusing on the type of the text, its structure, function, target readership, style, etc. The students work individually, in groups, consult with the tutor. While translating and analyzing the translated text the students pay special attention to the semantic, lexical, stylistic features of the source text, bear in mind the aspect of pragmatics. They translate the text, revise and assess the translation editing it if necessary.The students enrich the stock of professional terminology, using bilingual, explanatory and electronic dictionaries. Illustrative and explanatory teaching method. Individual, pair and group work at practical classes solving and discussing the problems, posed by the lecturer, making conclusions, checking and evaluating the achieved result. .

|The aim of the course: To develop written translation skills of texts in the field of economics from English into Latvian/Russian and from Latvian/Russian into English. The objectives of the course: 1. To develop and improve written translation skills translating authentic texts in the field of economics from English into Latvian/Russian and from Latvian/Russian into English; 2. Students are able to analyze stylistic, semantic and textual features of texts in the field of economics, identifying and solving translation problems in order to use appropriate translation methods. - Students characterize the most important features of texts in economics, which facilitates precise and effective translation process. Assessment: 16 test translation; 2 exam translations a semester. Evaluation: mark according to 10 grade scale.
Students are able to use effectively various dictionaries, parallel texts, as well as professional advice in the process of translation. - Students purposefully implement necessary translation strategies and methods. Assessment: submitted test translations, tests, exam.
Students are able to approach critically individual and team translations skillfully in order to improve the quality of translation, as well as to enrich the term stock. - Students edit and correct target language texts, demonstrating mastery in the usage of professional terminology. Assessment: test translations, tests, exam.
Students are able to develop and improve written translation skills and competences, rational thinking in translation of texts in the field of economics of various degree of difficulty from E into L/R and vice versa. - Students translate texts on economics. Assessment: test translations, tests, exam (1,500 pr.s. in 45 min from E into L/R and 1,500 pr.s. vice versa with the help of a dictionary). Evaluation: 10 grade scale.
